Bike to Work Day is coming up on Thursday, May 16. If you are participating in this annual event and will be riding through the Kearny Mesa area, come by our pit stop alongside the Raytheon building, on Balboa Avenue, just east of Kearny Villa Road.
Our stop is one of more than 100 pit stops that are planned across San Diego County and hosted by various companies, nonprofits and community-based organizations to support the thousands of bicyclists who are expected to hop on two wheels on Thursday.
This is the 29th annual Bike to Work Day – a nationally recognized event celebrated across America in May. The event is part of national Bike Month and is organized by the iCommute program at the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). iCommute offers a guaranteed ride home for bike commuters, if they encounter an issue or are unable to make a safe trip home.
Snacks and more at the SDG&E pit stop
Hosted by SDG&E’s Clean Transportation Committee, our pit stop will be open 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Bicyclists will get breakfast burritos, water and coffee. In addition, they will receive free swag (provided by the SANDAG iCommute program), including a Bike to Work Day t-shirt if they register for the event.
The pit stop will feature a spin the wheel game and a photo booth where cyclists can take photos to post to social media. This is our second year hosting a pit stop for Bike to Work Day. Last year, around 120 people stopped by our pit stop.
Why go by bike?
The transportation sector remains the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in California. To help build a sustainable, clean air future, SDG&E supports not just events like Bike to Work Day, but also is helping to advance the adoption of zero- and low-emission electric vehicles.
Find bike resources on iCommuteSD.com, including the San Diego regional bike map, riding and safety tips, secure bike parking, and how to take your bike on transit.
Join the fun and ride your bike to work. It’s economical, helps lower greenhouse gas emissions, and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
