Community beautification: Supporting our community through art

Last year, in partnership with San Diego Councilmember Monica Montgomery, SDG&E offered 30 utility boxes as canvasses for community artists in District 4 in support of the Let’s Live Let’s Love initiative. Let’s Live Let’s Love seeks to reduce violence, promote unity, healing and peace, foster improved community and police relationships, and improve overall quality of life in San Diego.

The 30 boxes were painted by Southeast Art Team with images and text that reflect cultural pride, peace and safety, championing the initiative’s message. You can see a short video to see some of the transformed boxes and learn more about this important community project below:

Now more than ever, we believe strongly in the importance of promoting messages of peace and inclusion in our community. In addition, we believe bringing a little more positivity and beauty to our community can make a big difference.

In addition to Let’s Live Let’s Love, we’ve also collaborated on art projects spearheaded by Imperial Beach Councilmember Mark West and his initiative to help beautify and improve Imperial Beach, including the beautification of Imperial Beach utility boxes and the installation of a large-scale mural.

The utility box project was completed in partnership with the Imperial Beach Arts Bureau. Ideas for the designs for each coastal/ocean-themed box were developed by the local Resident Leadership Academy as well as a local school, then interpreted and painted by members of the arts bureau.

At San Diego Gas & Electric, we take pride in being deeply involved in supporting and bettering our community. You can see more of our work in the community at sdge.com/community.
