If you plan on taking a bike ride along the Bayshore Bikeway segment parallel to the I-5, please note that San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has an upcoming construction project in the area. Next month, our crews will be working to upgrade the electrical infrastructure system in the area and replacing two power poles. This is all part of our commitment to provide safe and reliable energy service to our customers and to comply with state regulations.

Construction will be within a 1/2-mile stretch of the Bayshore Bikeway between the Sweetwater River in National City and E Street/Gunpowder Point Drive and Bay Boulevard in Chula Vista. Construction will take place between 1 a.m.-9 a.m., Nov. 4-5 and Nov. 11-13. The bike path will be reopened and accessible each day after 9 a.m.

The project will proceed north to south and is expected to be completed on Nov. 13. For everyone’s safety, this portion of the bike trail will be closed during construction hours. Cyclists will be detoured to an alternative bike route each day.

What SDG&E is Doing to Minimize Impacts

The SDG&E project team recognizes Bayshore Bikeway is a popular bike path and will take several measures to reduce inconveniences for cyclists. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as they travel through this area.

• After construction work ends at 9 a.m. each day, equipment will be stored off-site, and the bike path will be reopened and fully accessible.
• Cyclists from the north will be detoured east to Hoover Avenue/West 33rd Street in National City and continue south along National City Boulevard/Broadway.
• Cyclists from the south will be detoured east to Lagoon Drive/F Street in Chula Vista and continue north along Broadway/National City Boulevard.
• Detour signage will be posted along the detour route.
• Access to the bike path is being maintained as much as possible, with the support of flaggers who direct bike and foot traffic in the sections where cyclists are being detoured.
