Safety and integrity are some of our core values as a company, and these values especially shine through in our work to maintain and inspect our infrastructure serving more than 3.7 million customers in the region.
This month, SDG&E’s Gas Operations and Pipeline Integrity teams have been conducting inspections on a critical gas pipeline (Supply Line 49-13) in El Cajon on Cuyamaca Street between Prospect Avenue and Fletcher Parkway. Gas Operations performs regular inspections like these to ensure the more than eight thousand miles of natural gas distribution and transmission pipelines can safely and reliably deliver natural gas to residents and businesses in our service territory.
During the inspection SDG&E crews identified a need to make important repairs. On Thursday, June 29, SDG&E crews began repair work on the critical gas pipeline on Cuyamaca St. which required the closure of Cuyamaca St. between Prospect Ave. and N. Marshall Ave. for safety.
While gas service will remain uninterrupted for customers during the repairs, SDG&E crews are expected to be on-site working for the next 6-8 weeks in the area.
Customers can expect construction noise and changes to flow of traffic while crews work to place the pipeline back into normal operation. Crews will be working 24 hours a day (with the exception of the July 4th holiday) to expedite repairs and minimize the time that Cuyamaca is closed.
Your safety and the safety of the community is our top priority. We take reports of gas leaks seriously and will be monitoring calls throughout this project. If you smell gas within your home or business that you believe is not related to this work and need to schedule a service appointment, please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-800-611-7343.
We thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we conduct this important work to continue to provide safe and reliable gas service to the region.
