San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has launched @thegoatsdge, a new Instagram channel dedicated to its herd of fire-prevention goats. The channel features a ‘goat load’ of bleat-worthy visuals with a focus on the role they play in supporting wildfire-prevention efforts. The launch coincides with the goats’ deployment across San Diego neighborhoods to clear flammable brush from transmission corridors, a task they perform while winning hearts countywide.

The channel provides a behind-the-scenes look at the goats’ eco-friendly work, including grazing steep, rugged terrain inaccessible to machinery, removing invasive plants – and naturally fertilizing the soil. Through playful photos and videos, @thegoatsdge will weave in wildfire-preparedness tips and highlights of SDG&E’s broader safety initiatives.
Beyond the Herd
SDG&E’s 17-year track record without a major, utility-caused wildfire is rooted in a relentless commitment to continuous process improvement and a work culture that prioritizes safety above all else. This means constantly evaluating risks, implementing new technologies and infrastructure upgrades, refining operational procedures based on lessons learned – and empowering employees at all levels to champion safety.
This multifaceted strategy, driven by technology, infrastructure enhancements, and a deep-seated safety culture, works alongside the grazing program to protect communities year-round. The @thegoatsdge channel will offer glimpses into these interconnected efforts alongside the herd's adorable adventures.
