On Tuesday, Oct. 1, Prescott Promenade in Downtown El Cajon will be transformed into a showcase of modern manufacturing industries and a haven for job seekers and students who want to learn about job opportunities in this economic sector.
The 4th annual East County Manufacturing Expo will take place 3-6 p.m., 200 E. Main St. As a member of the East County Economic Development Council – the expo organizer – we are thrilled to be not just the title sponsor of the expo but also take part in the expo.
We will have two booths at the expo. Our customer outreach team will be there to answer questions about our programs and services, and our clean transportation team will be there to share information about our programs to expand the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the San Diego region. One of our newest transportation electrification programs will build chargers to help commercial and industrial businesses looking to transition to medium-duty and heavy-duty electric vehicles and equipment, such as trucks and forklifts.
Event showcases local businesses and career opportunities
The East County expo takes place the same week that Manufacturing Day events will be held nationwide to put the spotlight on manufacturers and manufacturing jobs.
According to the National Manufacturing Association (NAM), there is a critical skilled-labor shortage in manufacturing industry that’s exacerbated by the retirement of the Baby Boom generation. Many manufacturers are struggling to fill jobs with skilled laborers who have the high tech skills that are needed to run today’s manufacturing operations.
About 40 companies have registered to take part in the expo. Major manufacturers who will be present include Flexsystems, GKN Aerospace, RCP Block & Brick, Southland Envelope Company, Taylor Guitars and Quality Controlled Manufacturing Inc.
Event details
The Manufacturing Expo is free and open to the public. Last year, the event drew more than 500 attendees. To learn more, visit the East County Economic Development Council’s website.
