With the expiration of the National Weather Service's Red Flag Warning this morning at 4 a.m. and improvement in weather conditions, SDG&E has mobilized its field workforce to begin patrolling power lines and equipment impacted by Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in order to restore power to customers.
At sunrise, approximately 300 SDG&E field employees continued their work to patrol and inspect power lines on foot and by air to restore the approximately 46,500 customers who remained out of power as of Wednesday morning due to PSPS.
Patrolling and inspecting power lines are the first steps in the restoration process after a PSPS. Restoring power to customers can be a lengthy process. Although inspections are underway, it can be difficult to predict how long an inspection may take, given the varied length of each power line, the terrain and whether aerial inspections are required. If damage is found, repairs must be made before power can be restored safely. For more information on the restoration process, click here.
Community Resource Centers remain open for impacted communities until power has been fully restored. These Centers are open to the public and equipped with resources including Wi-Fi, and phone and medical device charging. Community Resource Center locations and hours can be found at sdge.com/ready.
SDG&E crews are working as quickly as safety allows. As SDG&E works to restore power, customers may see power restored in some areas while their location remains without power. This occurs because different parts of a neighborhood may be on different circuits, and not all circuits are restored at the same time. Customers can find the latest information on the estimated restoration times on SDG&E’s outage map, and additional resources about PSPS at sdge.com/ready.
