To protect first responders fighting the brush fire in the Talmadge/Kensington area, San Diego Gas & Electric has turned off power to about 4,000 customers. At around 1:45 p.m., we received reports of a fire near Fairmount Avenue and Aldine Drive that was burning under power lines.

Our on-scene personnel is working in close coordination with the incident commander from San Diego Fire-Rescue to help ensure public safety.

Our Aircrane, SkyMaverick (@SkyMaverickSDGE), was dispatched to help fight the fire at 1:52 p.m.. The largest helitanker of its kind in the nation, SkyMaverick is based out of Gillespie Field and has the capacity to drop 2,650 gallons of water. It’s contracted by SDG&E to be stationed here year-round to provide support to regional firefighting agencies.

Estimated Time of Power Restoration

It is not known at this point how long the outage may last.  Before power can be restored, our crews must first inspect the power lines to see if there was any fire damage. If damage was found, repairs will need to be made before power can be restored.
