Public Safety Power Shutoffs Possible as SDG&E Monitors High Fire Risk Conditions

Due to extreme fire weather conditions and forecasted Santa Ana winds, San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) continues to monitor high-fire-risk conditions and has notified approximately 117,500 customers to prepare for a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) as early as Monday afternoon. The communities potentially at risk of a PSPS include San Diego County’s mountain and backcountry areas and select northern coastal communities, as well as inland southern Orange County. A complete list of potentially impacted communities can be found at sdge.com/Ready.

SDG&E began notifying customers on Saturday who are most at risk of a PSPS, via phone, text messages and email. State regulators approve PSPS as an important safety tool of last resort to mitigate fire risk during dangerous weather conditions.

SDG&E has activated its Emergency Operations Center to monitor conditions 24/7 and has personnel, pre-staged materials, and equipment ready for response. SDG&E notifies  customers of available Community Resource Centers and keeps a complete list at sdge.com/Ready.
During high winds, SDG&E encourages customers to be prepared for unplanned power outages. Customers should never approach a downed line and should report it by calling 911 or SDG&E’s call center at 1-800-411-7343. Real-time information about unplanned power outages can be found at sdge.com/outage. The company also advises customers that personal emergency plans should be utilized to keep family, pets and livestock safe.
