SDG&E Restores Power to Communities Impacted by Public Safety Power Shutoffs
After crews completed safety inspections of our electrical system in areas that experienced the strongest winds, power was restored to all 1,466 residents by 5:17 p.m. in East County communities of Boulevard, Campo and Jacumba who were impacted today by Public Safety Power Shutoffs to help reduce fire risk. We will continue to monitor weather and fire conditions.

Due to unexpected high winds we needed to shut off power quickly for safety in the East County communities of Boulevard, Campo and Jacumba, impacting 1,466 customers.
Winds have subsided and crews have started initial inspections on equipment in order to begin restoring power. We currently expect that power will be restored today as long it is safe to do so.
As a reminder, inspections must be done during safe weather conditions and daylight hours and include vehicle, air and foot patrols.
In an abundance of caution, SDG&E is activating its Mobile Command Unit in order to open a Covid safe “park and grab” Community Resource Center by 5 p.m. in Boulevard, should the power remain out. Customers can pick up water, snacks and other items.

Due to unexpected high winds we needed to shut off power quickly for safety in the East County community of Boulevard to 1,466 customers as of 10 a.m. We expect that power will be restored today provided crews can do so safely.
The dynamic nature of the winds was such that we were not able to give our customers as much notice as usual. We apologize because we recognize being without power is inconvenient. We appreciate our customers’ understanding.
We have since made notifications to customers through our Emergency Notifications System and will continue to do so throughout the duration of the Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).
Due to the expected short duration of the outages today, SDG&E will not open a Community Resource Center.

Power has been restored to the approximately 2,900 residents in the Fallbrook area, who were impacted by Public Safety Power Shutoffs that were implemented this morning starting around 9 a.m. to help reduce fire risk.
Before restoring power, our crews completed safety inspections of our electrical system in areas that experienced the strongest winds. Strong winds can blow tree branches and other debris onto power lines. Inspections were done by foot, vehicle and helicopter.
If the current weather forecast holds, SDG&E does not anticipate the need for further Public Safety Power Shutoffs on Tuesday.

The Community Resource Center located at the Fallbrook Branch Library, 124 S. Mission Rd., Fallbrook, is now open to support residents affected by Public Safety Power Shutoffs. The facility will remain open until 10:00 p.m. (subject to change).
This facility will provide ice, water, snacks, charging for small electronics and up-to-date information. Water for livestock will also be provided and residents are encouraged to bring a vessel to transport water for their animals.

Santa Ana Winds Forecasted for South Orange County & North SD County
Due to elevated fire weather conditions and forecasted Santa Ana winds in localized areas of south Orange County and north San Diego County, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has notified approximately 21,480 residents that it may have to turn off power in order to reduce wildfire risk Monday and Tuesday. Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) are approved by state regulators as an important safety tool to mitigate fire risk during dangerous weather conditions.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for inland Orange County for 2 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday, and it has indicated that “any rainfall that occurs this weekend will not delay the fire weather potential for very long on early Monday.” Whereas Santa Ana winds normally come from the east and sweep through San Diego’s backcountry, the forecasted winds are expected to come mostly from the north and will impact urbanized and coastal areas which have not experienced PSPS before.
Within SDG&E’s service territory, the strongest winds are expected overnight Sunday through Monday in the San Clemente and east San Juan Capistrano areas in south Orange County and the Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Pala Reservation and Fallbrook areas in north San Diego County. On Saturday, SDG&E sent notifications via phone, text message and email to customers in those areas to inform them that they are at risk of safety power shutoffs. Customers who were notified should be prepared to activate their personal emergency plan to keep their family and pets safe. SDG&E will continue to provide customers with updates when there is more certainty about forecasted weather conditions.
Even though power lines in San Clemente are underground, residents in the coastal town are still at risk of PSPS because the grid is interconnected. Overhead facilities, which could be affected by gusty winds, supply electricity to the city’s residents.
SDG&E has activated its Emergency Operations Center to monitor conditions 24/7 and has organized personnel and pre-staged materials and equipment for response. Drive thru Community Resource Centers will be available on Monday, October 26, at 8:00am at the Fallbrook Branch Library, 124 S. Mission Road, Fallbrook, and Vista Hermosa Sports Park, 987 Avenida Vista Hermosa in San Clemente.
