As part of the test, SDG&E website & mobile app users will see test banners and approx. 90 customers will receive test messages via text, phone call & email.
Nothing is more important than receiving timely, accurate and up-to-date information. In the utility world, this is especially important during the summer months, when increased use can place strain on the grid, or when Santa Ana winds and other conditions present in the region require the Company to proactively deenergize certain areas as a last resort to help protect homes and communities from increased fire risk. Because regional preparedness is so important, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will begin testing its public notification systems twice a year as part of our unwavering commitment to providing our customers with best-in-class service they can count on and deserve.
As part of the test, between 10:30 a.m. and noon on Thursday, June 1, customers, regional public safety partners and SDG&E employees will see test banners at the top of SDG&E’s webpages and on select mobile applications, such as the “Alerts by SDG&E” app, which can provide customers with real-time information on Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) for up to five locations of their choice in English and Spanish. In addition to informative banners, test pins will also be visible on the outage map on sdge.com/outages, which will be labeled as a TEST. About 90 customers in SDG&E’s service territory will also receive test notifications in the form of a call, text message and email. Customers will receive an email in advance to make them aware of the details of the test and what to expect.
“Testing our notification systems is an essential component of preparedness and helps ensure that we can provide our customers and local safety partners with timely and accurate information during potential future outages, Public Safety Power Shutoffs and emergencies” said SDG&E’s Vice President of Wildfire and Climate Science, Brian D’Agostino. “By testing our systems and internal processes, we will also be able to identify any continuous improvements needed as we aim to provide best-in-class service and quick response times for our customers.”
There are no planned outages, maintenance work or anticipated Public Safety Power Shutoffs on Thursday, June 1. If customers experience an unplanned outage during the time of the test, details and estimated restoration times can be found at sdge.com/outages.
