Company Provides Safety Tips to Help Keep Customers Safe during Region’s First Winter Storm
SAN DIEGO, Dec. 23, 2025 — San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is taking proactive steps to prepare for the upcoming winter storm, expected to begin Tuesday with scattered showers and then will progress to heavier rain Wednesday and gusty coastal winds with isolated lightning possible. Unsettled weather will continue through Saturday. The safety of customers, employees and communities remains SDG&E’s top priority.
Thanks to recent investments in advanced grid technology, expanded field resources and close collaboration with local agencies, SDG&E is prepared to support customers and communities through the upcoming wind and rain. These efforts help protect public safety and enable our crews to respond quickly to potential outages, minimizing disruptions. The company’s meteorology team continues to monitor weather conditions to help provide situational awareness to front-line crews working to support the infrastructure that serves the region.
In the event of unplanned outages, SDG&E crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power. We remain committed to customer safety and reliable service, with teams ready to respond at a moment’s notice to reduce disruptions.
SDG&E encourages customers to have a plan in place for possible outages. To help, SDG&E offers these important safety tips:
Always assume downed power lines are energized — stay away and call 9-1-1 and SDG&E at (800) 411-7343.
If someone comes into contact with a power line, do not touch them — call 9-1-1 immediately.
If a downed line touches a car, remain inside and call 9-1-1 for help.
Do not attempt to turn off power or disconnect gas service during an evacuation; SDG&E equipment has safeguards in place.
Secure outdoor items to prevent them from damaging power lines.
Drive cautiously — storm conditions increase the risk of vehicle accidents involving electrical equipment.
Prepare an emergency kit with a battery-operated radio, flashlights, and essential supplies. Avoid using candles during outages.
Have a backup plan for medical equipment needs.
Give SDG&E crews space to work safely and efficiently.
