SDG&E’s Community Tree Rebate Program Takes Root with Customers

Earlier this year, and just in time for Arbor Day, our teams launched a new program designed to help customers plant trees and other native species at their homes. Our Community Tree Rebate program enables qualifying residential customers throughout the region to receive a rebate of up to $35 per tree or plant when they plant or pot an eligible native species. Customers can apply for up to five rebates through the program, which will close in late October this year.

Check out how some of our customers are using the program to help make a positive impact in their community:

“SDG&E’s Community Tree Rebate Program has helped my family rebuild our yard. We live in zone 10b, and the drought and gophers have [made it] so hard to plant anything. This program has helped us feel encouraged to plant native and drought-tolerant plants. Don’t forget to plant it with a gopher bag and water during summer months.”Elayne J., Spring Valley

“SDGE's tree rebate program is awesome! It was an easy process identifying what trees qualify and applying. Most of all, I'm so happy to participate in a program that benefits our community and local ecosystem.” - Laura Gonzalez, Chula Vista

“I was very pleased with the ‘tree’ rebate offered by SDG&E.  We have plenty of trees on our property so I actually used it for milkweed plants which will attract butterflies.  Everything went extremely easy. Got our rebate check within 3 weeks of our application.”Bob S., Poway

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are providing 10,000 trees annually throughout our service territory to help support direct environmental and health benefits like shade and cleaner air. This is especially important for customers in communities where trees and plants may be needed most. Our Community Tree Rebate Program is available to residential customers in eligible zip codes who plant specific trees and plants. A yard is not needed to participate as some qualifying plants can grow well in large containers placed outdoors or in balcony and patio areas.
