This Sunday: Walk and Drive the Talk on Clean Air

Take a walk in a beautiful park, get reinvigorated with fresh air, and at the same time contribute to a good cause.

If this sounds good, join us and the American Lung Association this Sunday, Jan. 27, for the annual LUNG FORCE Walk at Liberty Station.

LUNG FORCE walks foster connections between lung cancer survivors and their families, medical professionals and lung health advocates, and help raise funds for medical research and resources for those impacted by lung disease.

More than 50 employees from Team SDG&E/Sempra are expected to participate in the event. In addition, SDG&E’s clean transportation team will host an electric vehicle (EV) ride and drive at Liberty Station on the same day, between 8:30 a.m. and noon.

Take advantage of the two-fer. Enjoy a nice walk and get behind the wheel of an electric car and literally plug into clean air.

That's not all. There is an extra incentive: for each EV test drive, SDG&E will donate $10 to the American Lung Association to advance lung research!

Connection Between Electric Vehicles and Clean Air

Why is a LUNG FORCE Walk being paired with an EV ride and drive? It’s because there is a strong connection between air quality and cars.

Conventional cars – fueled by gasoline – are a major source of air pollution, whereas plug-in cars produce low or no tailpipe emissions.

That’s why SDG&E partners with the American Lung Association on its Plug Into Clean Air program, which raises awareness of how driving electric cars and hybrids benefits the environment, public health, and drivers’ wallets.

In our region, more than 30,000 people already drive clean air vehicles. Among them are more than 500 of our employees who have made that choice.

EV Ride and Drive
If you are even the slightest bit curious about EVs, stop by the test drive area on Sunday. You do not have to be a participant in the walk to test drive the EVs. All you need is your driver’s license.

Local dealerships – including Kearny Pearson Kia, Norm Reeves Toyota and Lang Nissan – will provide electric vehicles for test drives, including the Nissan LEAF, Toyota Prius Prime and either the Kia Soul or Niro. A Chevy Bolt from City Chevrolet and a Fiat 500e from Fiat of San Diego will also be on display.

In addition, look for our Bolt featuring the “It’s On” message.

Why Walk the Talk and Drive the Talk?
According to the American Lung Association, Lung cancer is the No. 1 cancer killer of women, and it’s on the rise in women. Lung disease – such as asthma, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis – impacts more than 35 million Americans.
