Residents who live in Descanso and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend a free wildfire safety workshop this Saturday at the Descanso Branch Library. The event is hosted by the Descanso Fire Safe Council in collaboration with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and San Diego County Fire Authority. Descanso - Fire Operations in the Wildland Urban Interface

Have you ever wondered how to give your house the best chance of survival in a wildfire? Have you wanted to meet your local firefighters, and learn what they do during wildfires? Are you interested in hearing about what others in your community are doing to help protect your neighborhood?
This one-day, in-depth course will go over the key principles used by firefighters to suppress wildland fires and protect communities.
Participants will:
- Learn about fire behavior and prediction
- Apply fire concepts to the community's unique topography, fuels, weather, and fire safety challenges
- Learn how to best protect a home from wildfire
- Discuss survival tips, situational awareness, and Ready! Set! Go!
- Participate in a field trip to get an up-close look at the wildfire readiness levels of selected homes

When: Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
