Managing Your Energy Costs During Summer Heat

With temperatures climbing across the region, SDG&E is committed to supporting our community by providing helpful resources to stay safe, cool and energy-efficient.

Here are some practical energy-saving tips and tools to help manage your energy use and reduce costs during the heat:

  • Close blinds and curtains: Block direct sunlight during peak heat hours to keep indoor temperatures lower.

  • Set thermostats efficiently: Aim for 78°F when home and higher when away. Programmable thermostats can automate these adjustments.

  • Use fans wisely: Ceiling and portable fans help circulate air and reduce the need for A/C. Turn them off when leaving the room.

  • Check your filter: Clean A/C and dryer filters regularly to improve efficiency.

  • Use small appliances: Microwaves, toaster ovens and slow cookers use less energy and generate less heat.

  • Fire up the grill: Cook outdoors to keep your kitchen cool and enjoy time away from electronics.
