After restoring power to all customers impacted by Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) on Thursday afternoon, SDG&E implemented additional de-energizations late Thursday into early Friday due to the return of strong Santa Ana winds. Santa Ana winds are expected to continue in the coming days, and SDG&E encourages everyone to remain prepared. This week marks the driest start to the rainy season in San Diego County in the past 174 years.
Wildfire weather conditions include:
- Critically low vegetation moisture due to lack of rain, made more vulnerable by high winds
- Low humidity levels across the service area
- Widespread wind gusts exceeding 60-70 mph.
SDG&E’s Emergency Operations Center and team of meteorologists continue to monitor high winds and severe wildfire conditions around the clock as the National Weather Service’s Red Flag Warning remains in effect. Power will remain out as long as high winds pose a safety threat to communities. SDG&E has pre-staged materials, equipment, and personnel to respond swiftly once conditions allow. Patrolling and restoration efforts will resume when it is safe to do so.
Community Support During PSPS Events
Community Resource Centers remain available for customers impacted by PSPS. These centers are equipped with Wi-Fi, phone and medical device charging, and are open to the public. For the most current list of impacted communities, along with resource center locations and hours, visit sdge.com/ready. SDG&E thanks its customers for their patience and understanding as it continues to prioritize community safety through PSPS measures.
High winds and other weather conditions also have the potential to lead to unplanned outages, which are separate from PSPS. Customers are encouraged to visit SDG&E’s outage map at sdge.com/outages for unplanned outage details and restoration updates. Never approach damaged infrastructure or downed power lines; report them by calling 911 or SDG&E’s call center at 1-800-411-7343.
Additional Resources
