Reliability and Sustainability go Hand in Hand. Or Paw.

Bringing Good Energy is about so much more than delivering the power that keeps the lights on. It's about providing peace of mind, knowing reliable energy is powering extraordinary efforts to make our world a better place.

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, for instance, spearheads vital conservation work to safeguard the future for animals, plants and their habitats, both globally and in our own backyard. And there's so much to protect.

"The County of San Diego is considered a biodiversity hot spot, one of the most diverse places for plant and animal species in the U.S.," said Darren Burton, senior environmental specialist in the Natural Resources Group at SDG&E. "We've got many miles of coastline, lagoons, foothills, mountains, deserts and areas with dense chaparral each with their own micro-climates and environmental concerns," he added.

“The County of San Diego is considered a biodiversity hot spot, one of the most diverse places for plant and animal species in the U.S.”

This rich biodiversity makes San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's conservation efforts all the more critical. Their work includes habitat restoration, conservation breeding programs, and the reintroduction of species into their native ecosystems. All these initiatives support their vision of a world where all life thrives as they generate, share, and apply scientific knowledge vital to the conservation of animals, plants and their habitats worldwide.

Through living our value to do the right thing, we also play a role in protecting local wildlife and their habitats. "Something I've always been proud of is that SDG&E is very mindful to leave as little footprint as possible," said Burton.

In 1995, SDG&E was the first utility to voluntarily develop a Natural Communities Conservation Plan/Habitat Conservation Plan under the State Natural Communities Conservation Act and Federal Endangered Species Act. Our company has long been dedicated to protecting endangered species. And, our commitment to preserve biodiversity extends throughout our operations and fire-hardening activities.

“Something I've always been proud of is that SDG&E is very mindful to leave as little footprint as possible.”

Paving the way for a more sustainable future requires not only preservation, but also a focus on driving meaningful change through innovation.

SDG&E and the San Diego Zoo are in the early stages of collaboration to pave the way for more sustainable transportation practices at the landmark location. Through our Power Your Drive programs, efforts are under way to transition the Zoo to electric shuttles and trams, lowering emissions and reducing their overall carbon footprint.

And that's the kind of good energy that will help make the world a better place for all who share it.
